The Real Winers In Education, Teachers or Kids?

According the story below Arizona English teachers or those that teach English to our children don't need to be proficient in the the language, have good grammar, or can mispronounce words anymore.

I think I'm going to apply for a job to teach English in our public school system because characteristics fit me perfectly well.English has never been my strong point and now I can take that and get a job with it.

don't believe me you can read more about it right here.

I you don't want to read it. Here is an example of what they are talking about:

Exmples of concerns included a teacher who asked her English learners "How do we call it in English?" and teachers who pronounced "levels" as "lebels" and "much" as "mush." Last year, federal officials found monitoring reports that documented teachers who pronounced "the" as "da" and "lives here" as "leeves here."
Finely there is hope for me and all the rest of us that have trouble with the English language. The USA is really a place of possibilities.

Jerry Lewis Not Endorsed By Own Organization.

Jerry Lewis who is running against Senate President Russell Pearce has been snuffed by the very organization that Sequoia belongs to. I believe that their rejection of Jerry Lewis goes along way in saying who represents education better in the state of Arizona.

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Today, Arizona Parents for Education, a grassroots group promoting the interests of Arizona's public school distance learning programs, today announced that Senate President Russell Pearce was named the 2011 Golden Apple Award Winner. Previous winners include Governor Jan Brewer, former Senate President Tim Bee, former state Representative David Lujan, and Senator Linda Lopez.

"Arizona is fortunate to have Senate President Pearce fighting for our children," Arizona Parents for Education President Ann Robinett said. "Russell has been a tireless advocate for education in our great state. His steadfast support for distance learning and educational choice has improved education for our children at every level, and we can't thank him enough for his efforts," concluded Robinett.

There are more than 20,000 Arizona students who participate in Arizona Online Instruction programs statewide. For more information visit us on the web at www.azparents.org.

Mesa Public Schools - Should They Be Rewarded For Failing?

The Mesa Tribune News paper recently published a story indicating that 32 schools of Mesa's 83 schools failed Arizona's and the federal government's educational standards. That is a nearly 39 percent.

Michael Cowan, superintendent of Mesa's public school system, comments are a little shocking. He basically said that he wasn't surprised because most districts didn't pass.

And get the attitude of Ray Chavez, the principal at Carson Junior High. His attitude is we haven't made it for give years so it is really no big surprise. This guy was hired to be a turn around specialist. He also put the blame back on the kids insinuating that it is because the kids qualify for free or reduced lunches. That to me sounds like an excuse.

And just think that Mesa's School Board was going to ask for millions of dollars in additional taxes on your home to pay for these failing schools.

First I think the schools need to show significant improvement in meeting the educational standards before asking me and you the tax payer to pony up any more money.

You do not reward bad behavior with more money.

What do you think should Mesa Public Schools be rewarded when 39 percent of the schools fail to make the standard?

Schools in Arizona?

I realize that this doesn't necessarily apply to Arizona and Mesa Public Schools however; it makes me wonder though if something similar is going on when teachers unions and other scream so loudly when schools funding is decreased.

Funding for education in Arizona they largest item in the state budget. People have to remember that about 2/3 of Arizona budget is off limits to the state legislature, thanks in part citizen initiatives and federally mandated cost.  I don't think those speaking out against education cuts really understand the dynamics of the budget process.

Secretary of the state Ken Bennett has a great budget presentation which brings to light the dynamics. I would recommend that anybody who has a chance to see it when he presents.

Wow, Mesa Is On The Move, With Solar

If you haven't heard it by now, the City of Mesa landed a huge win in the announcement of First Solar building a manufacturing plant in the city of Mesa on the old General Motors proving ground.

First Solar is buying 135 acres and has an option on another 100 acres. The job will pay on average $48,000 according for Mesa's economic developement director Bill Jabjiniak. At capacity the facility could employ up to 4,000 people.

The construction project will provide an immediate boast of about 400 jobs as the project gets under construction. This project along with the construction of Cubs new stadium and training facilities will help to boast our economic development.

I'm in agreement with Mayor Smith, economic policies and business tax incentives are great for attracting these kinds of big project, in the long-term what is going to keep these projects coming is an educated work force and educational institution.

Way to go City of Mesa, and those involved. The possibilities are unlimited when we look forward and don't rely upon the past for our future.
